The Buttery (Off Grand Blvd.)

The Buttery! A name that in the diner's world holds alot of reputation and stigma. I went there on the recomondation of my friend Bill, and i was a bit nervous. In my two recent visits i discovered that...

1)Coffee! Not the best, yet not the worse. fairly typical, refills occasionally, and decent drank! But nothing to rave about either. 1/2 Point!
2)Hashbrowns. The (in my humble opinion) "fine point pencil" in a breakfast set, i was nervous when i saw Mary (our cook) begin the hashbrowns. But verily! They came out thin, crisp, and even though the portion looked small it was decieving. Why? The Buttery is old-school enough to use the circular cookers when making their hash-browns, i approve!
3)Pancakes..the only place i have encountered (and i believe the only place i ever will encounter) to beat Uncle Bill pancakes. I never thought the day would come...but these were big, filling, hot and not so cooked the inside was uncomfortably firm, but not so undercooked the inside was creamy. It was balance incarnate..victory
4)Eggs, they were mighty fine eggs...above average, simply because the cook timed the meal in a way that all of the food came out at the same time and they were bouncy end supple eggs, delicous!
5)Burgers/Fries, i have yet to partake of them, so i am unable to rate this yet, i shall edit it when this is not the case, though i will remark that my friend zach asked about a bacon burger (they didnt have one on menu) and she made it and stacked the thing with bacon. It had at least 6-7 slices! not your average measly three bacon slices...i look forward to it
6)Atmosphere/personality: The place felt a little dangerous. Though the area is nice enough and it had that "greasy spoon" feel to it. It spook of age and alot of memories, suffice to say i liked it! I felt as if the worker was there today, was there yesterday, and will be there 'morrow...Never changing. And it never realy gets crowded and obnoxious, though there is constant buisness. It felt like a traditional typical diner, full point!
7)Service, on time, genuine, kind, effecient, and hot! full point!
8)Breakfast Meats: tasty, though average portions. Nothing extradorinary or terrible, it earns half point
9)Price, fantastic! every platter around 4 dollars! and drinks around a dollar, A-MA-ZING
10) 24 hours, i might be pulling an 11 p.m.-6 a.m. stint here, to reside in its diner wisdom

All in all very suprised! I expected typical, i got above average! on the "Scale" a whopping 8/9, nearly unheard of. Personal advice, go in groups. And you ladies, dont go alone. It isnt dangerous really, but gotta go with wisdom.

Uncle Bill's (Manchester Location)

(This post and particular rating has no reflection on the Kings Highway Location of Uncle Bills and look forward to going there and checking out the "original" Uncle Bills :)

'Ello my fellow diner's and breakfast lover's!
I have the intense privilage of living near this Uncle Bills, and have eaten and drank there many times. It is fitting i begin our journey here, for this is where my own journey began.
Uncle Bills is NOT a diner sadly. It is a resturant and its feel therefore tends to be a bustling attitude (unless your the evening crew in the smoke section! or if your there say midnight to 5 30 in the morning, then there is your more traditional breakfast feel) On "The Scale"..well

1) Its coffee is either one of two extremes. Really bad! or quite tasty. So it gets a 1/2 point, and it depends on the waitress as far as refills go (Holla Penny! you do a great job!)
2) Their Hashbrowns are as hashbrowns should be, diced thin, cooked crisply and they come out hot! Full marks
3) Their pancakes...Dear Pearly Gates of heaven they are delicious. Be it classic, blueberry, or chocolate chip (yes they have a great selection) I have only encountered one diner to rival their pancakes which you'll see later in this blog. But full point on pancakes
4) Their eggs..sadly typical. Becuase it lacks that diner affection, you get not bad eggs, but for the sake of justice to all breakfast products, i cant award them full egg points, 1/2
5) Burger's and fries, yes. tasty and filling, not a bad deal. I suggest the Bacon Burger
6) Their Breakfast meats, rather tasty! their sausage and bacon comes out as bacon and sausage should, hot and filling! Portion is sadly lacking though, when a hungry chap asks for bacon he doesnt mean 2 slices! Thats just ignant...1/2 point!
7) It's atmosphere is one you have to create. If you dont go there with the right people you cant get that "bfast/no life groove" going on. Lucky for me, i have those people. But its more a family place, not a lone avenger's pinnacle of success on his quest (me!) so 1/2 point
8) Its service is..well..tends to be rather dismal. As much as i love the place, the waitress's are rarely kind (unless your a regular and build a relationship OR you tip well) But they get the food out hot, which is something, if only they didnt make you scared they dropped something in your coffee...
9)Price, a little up there. If you can hit that $7 mark you get tons of food. But if it falls below that, well you dont get alot for your money. Its unlimited coffee is $1.75 as well, a bit higher then usual. But they also have to deal with moochers, so 1/2 point, because it isnt ridiculous
10)Hours full marks! Its so nice knowing that at any time i can just get up and go to Uncle Bills, even if it is christmas time and those poor servers and cooks should be home, Uncle Bills knows no rest.

All in all, on "The Scale" Uncle Bills gets a 6 1/2 out of 10 rating. Not bad, but lacking. The search continues...
